Debating an English Only Policy

I’m getting comments like this:

Ну и чё с ними делать… Меня достали на моём блоге я устала вычищать…

I have no idea what is being said here, I don’t even know what language it’s in. Is it spam or is it someone telling me how awesome and amazing my blog is. I don’t know, and I don’t know what other people are doing with this.

Until further notice, if I get a post that is completely non-English, I will be marking it as spam. If someone can offer me a good reason to have a different policy, I’m all ears.

Post Notification – Acid Test

Ok Successies, going with the philosophy of “ready-fire-aim” I just blindly added “Post Notification” to my WordPress site (yes, what you are reading at this very second). The goal is to give you elite subscribers a notification when the site is updated. The goal is also to NOT spam you. If it doesn’t work, I’ll be pulling it off the site and trying something else.

Before you go, I’ve got a quick question for you while we’re here.

What is that question? I’m glad you asked.

It’s really simple, “Why are you here at ‘How much success can you handle’?” Are you looking to administer your wordpress site (cuz that’s what I seem to be talking about the most), or are you more interested in the nominal topic of this blog, which is taking the game of your life to the next level? Either way, I thank you for being here.

Tonights question – do my subscribers get notified of new posts

I’ve now got a “subscriber test user” and I’m just checking to see if they get notified of this new post.

Some how or other I got my “Allow people to post comments” setting turned to unchecked.

I apologize to everyone who has been wanting to comment on my various posts but has not been able to. Take a shot at subscribing to my blog, this should have the effect of allowing you comment with out being moderated.

How to get a notification on pending comments

Ok, I don’t know how to do this yet but I’m wondering if you do?

I’ve ignored this blog for about 3 or 4 weeks and have gotten roughly 10 spam comments a week. I take that as a hint that I’ve got a good potential for traffic with my focus on success.

Anyway, with my current Word Press settings, I get notified when I approve a comment, but not when one comes in. Obviously this doesn’t do *me* any good. Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Adding SocialMarker (Social Bookmarking) to Your WordPress Site

This site is the product of my wife’s business and the Thirty Day Challenge (also known in twitter-space as #30dc) As such, part of the pre-season homework was to learn about Social Marker. While I was at the Social Marker site, I noticed a section at the bottom of the page talking about code to add for your blog. Since I had a wordpress account I decided to give it a shot and document my progress. This post will be about how to set that up in word press it assumes that you are logged in as the wordpress administrator.

Step One – Click “Plugins” on “Edit Post” Screen

Step Two – Search for “socialmarker” and press “Install” (all the way over at the right)

Finally, Step Three – Wait till the install is done, and then click “Activate Plugin” (and yes, I did miss getting the screen shot of the confirmation screen between steps two and three)

Ta-da, you are now done. You should now see the following icon at the bottom of all of your posts.

Now the tricky part is going to be figuring out how to get my screen shots to show up on the page the way I want them to. Stay tuned.

Add Google Analytics to your WordPress Site

This was incredibly easy, and assumes that you have already set up Google Analytics for your site.

1) Log into word press as the admin.

2) Click on “Plugins”

3) Search for “Google Analytics for WordPress”, Click “Install” on this one:

4) Enter your Google Analytics “Web Property ID” in the top spot named “Analytics Account ID” (should have the following format “UA-9999999-9″)

5) Click Update Setting ….. And, you’re done.

Upgrading to WordPress 2.8.1

I did not start the evening with the intent to upgrade my Word Press installation, but apparently it’s something that I should probably get done, and hey, I’m supposed to be some kind of tech-head right? Or at least I used to be.

I may be soon learning why people outsource their web administration.

That went smoothly. A little bit of research revieled that the steps were as follows.

1) Back up web-site – that led to some more research, but it turned out to be a button push

2) Find out if my host supports automatic WordPress upgrades (it does)

3) Log out, and then log back in as site admin.

4) Press the “upgrade” button.

Total time with research; less than 15 minutes
